Continuing service education is extremely important in the development of the professional educator.
It provides in-depth preparation for teachers who are currently in the education system. It also ensures the continuation of a highly qualified teaching force that is engaged in lifelong learning.
Continuing service education addresses three objectives:
- Responding to specific educational needs as identified by individual teachers, regional centres for education/CSAP, or the education community. This will ensure flexibility in the deployment of teachers within the school system and provide opportunities for teachers to acquire new knowledge and skills.
- Addressing school responsibilities in relation to administration, curriculum/instructional development, or staff development.
- Providing opportunities for the extension of subject area knowledge and/or pedagogy in an area in which the teacher has undertaken prior studies.
