Increasing Certification Classification (Upgrading)

Continuing service education is extremely important in the development of the professional educator.

It provides in-depth preparation for teachers who are currently in the education system. It also ensures the continuation of a highly qualified teaching force that is engaged in lifelong learning.

Continuing service education addresses three objectives:

  1. Responding to specific educational needs as identified by individual teachers, regional centres for education/CSAP, or the education community. This will ensure flexibility in the deployment of teachers within the school system and provide opportunities for teachers to acquire new knowledge and skills.
  2. Addressing school responsibilities in relation to administration, curriculum/instructional development, or staff development.
  3. Providing opportunities for the extension of subject area knowledge and/or pedagogy in an area in which the teacher has undertaken prior studies.
