The Office of Teacher Certification with the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is responsible for the following:

  • Processing initial teacher certification applications
  • Processing applications for increases in teacher classification
  • Recording teaching service for certified teachers in Nova Scotia
  • Providing a suite of administrative services for certified teachers
  • Investigating matters of teacher misconduct

Deadlines for Applying for an Increase in Classification

Next Deadline - February 28, 2019

Teachers are reminded that no extensions or exceptions can be made to deadlines as they are regulated.

Incomplete applications for increases in classification will not be processed.

Planning in advance of a deadline will allow time to request and submit all relevant documentation.

Attention Bridging Teacher's Certificate (BTC) holders - Please note this deadline also applies to those BTC holders who complete an upgrading program for the purpose of increasing their salary scale as per Article 43.06 of the Teachers' Provincial Agreement.

Online Payment Service

Our online payment service is available for the following fee-based services:
